Why a three-amino-acid peptide is not the cheapest thing on the shelf
KPV is a tripeptide: lysine, proline, valine. Short sequences are simpler to synthesise than long ones, so buyers often expect the price to track the amino-acid count. It does not, and the reasons are worth understanding before comparing offers.
- Purification, not synthesis, dominates. Reaching a figure like 99.765% requires chromatographic separation regardless of chain length.
- Small vials carry fixed costs. Lyophilisation, vialling, sealing and batch testing cost roughly the same for a 10mg vial as a 50mg one.
- Analysis is per batch, not per milligram. One report is commissioned for a batch, so a small batch carries the whole cost of testing.
